About the Foundation
Rooted in the first 1000 days of a child’s life
The Zola Budd Foundation believes that the future of a nation begins in the earliest years of a child’s life. The first 1000 days are critical for brain development, emotional security, and lifelong learning.
In communities across South Africa, many parents, caregivers, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) practitioners lack the support, training, and resources they need. We exist to change that by strengthening families, empowering parents, and equipping ECD centres to nurture every child’s potential.

Supporting educators to obtain NQF Level 4 Early Childhood Development qualifications and ongoing mentorship to improve teaching practice.

Empowering Mothers
Antenatal classes, postnatal support, and mother–baby groups focused on nutrition, mental health, bonding, and early stimulation in the first 1000 days.
Parent Support Programs
Evidence-based parenting workshops, home visits, and group sessions that equip caregivers with practical tools for positive discipline and play-based learning.
ECD Practitioner Training
Accredited NQF Level 4 Early Childhood Development training, continuous professional development, and mentoring for practitioners and centre leaders.
ECD Centre Support
On-site coaching and support to improve centre governance, safety, nutrition, early learning programmes, and engagement with families.
Administration & Compliance Support
Guidance on registration, compliance, financial management, and reporting so ECD centres can operate sustainably and access funding opportunities.
